Sunbeam F1 Horizon

4G LTE Simplified Touchscreen Phone
YC Product Documentation
Sunbeam F1 Horizon

Overview

The Sunbeam F1 Horizon is Sunbeam’s value-tier simplified phone, designed for everyday use at home, in the office, or wherever a distraction-free phone is needed. It runs BasicOS — Sunbeam’s custom Android 8.1 AOSP fork — which strips away the Google ecosystem, app stores, and the browser entirely, leaving only the features each user’s specific model is configured with.

The F1 Horizon shares the same model-name feature tier system as the Sunbeam F1 Pro, offering the same range of configurations from voice-only (Chickadee) up to full-featured with email (Eagle). It is the more affordable option, and the right choice for standard indoor and light-duty use. Compared to the F1 Pro, the F1 Horizon has a smaller battery, a lower-resolution camera, and a standard plastic body — it is not ruggedized and carries no water or dust resistance rating.

For a side-by-side comparison of the F1 Horizon and F1 Pro — including differences in build quality, battery, and camera — see the Sunbeam F1 Pro vs. F1 Horizon comparison article.

BasicOS — What’s Included

BasicOS is Sunbeam’s privacy-focused operating system, built on Android 8.1 AOSP. It contains no Google services, no Play Store, no app store of any kind, and no web browser. Users cannot install third-party apps. The only apps available are those included with the specific model purchased. This is by design — BasicOS is intended to eliminate digital distractions and data collection while keeping the phone easy to use.

Because there is no app store or browser, the F1 Horizon is not a general-purpose smartphone. It is the right fit for users who need reliable voice and messaging capability without access to social media, streaming, or the open internet.

Subscription Add-Ons

Some advanced features on Sunbeam Wireless phones require an optional subscription. All plans are managed through your Sunbeam Wireless account.

Network & Compatibility

The F1 Horizon supports 4G LTE on Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, and 13, covering the major US carriers and their MVNOs. It is compatible with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and most US and Canadian MVNOs that operate on those networks.

Wi-Fi Calling availability depends on carrier plan. Check with the carrier to confirm Wi-Fi Calling is supported on the specific plan before relying on it.

International use: Band coverage is optimized for the United States and Canada. International roaming capability depends on destination country and carrier agreement. Verify with the carrier before traveling internationally.

Battery & Charging

The F1 Horizon includes a 1,750 mAh removable Li-Ion battery. A charging dock and USB-C cable are included in the box. The phone can be charged via USB-C directly or by placing it in the charging dock.

Battery compatibility note: The F1 Horizon battery is not interchangeable with the F1 Pro battery. Do not attempt to use an F1 Pro battery in the F1 Horizon or vice versa.

Because the battery is removable, a spare battery can be purchased and kept charged as a backup — contact Yoder Connections for accessory availability.

Accessories

Compatible accessories for the F1 Horizon include spare batteries, cases, and charging docks. For a full list of available accessories and part numbers, see the Sunbeam Accessories knowledge article.

Tips & Troubleshooting

Camera: “Camera Has Stopped” Error

If the camera app displays a “camera has stopped” error, the most common cause is a corrupt or oversized microSD card.

  • Remove the microSD card and test the camera. If it works without the card, reformat or replace the SD card.
  • If both the camera and the flashlight fail with the SD card removed, the phone likely needs to be replaced.
  • SD cards larger than 32 GB are not recommended — they can cause camera errors and other issues.

Group Messages

The maximum number of participants in a group message is limited by the carrier, not by the Sunbeam phone itself.

Transferring Messages to a New Phone

Messages can be transferred between two Sunbeam phones using the built-in Backup tool. This is the fastest and easiest method, and it works even if the old phone has a blank or broken screen. Note: messages cannot be transferred to a different phone brand.

Backup with broken screen: Dial *222587* (*backup*) to start a backup to the microSD card without needing the display. The phone will beep when the backup starts and again when it finishes. A different beep means no SD card was found.

Blocking Numbers

  • Block a call: Dial the number, then select “Block Number.”
  • Block messages: Open the messaging conversation with that number → Menu → Participant options → Block.
  • Contacts-only mode: Contacts → Menu → Settings → “Allow incoming calls from Contacts only.” Repeat for messages.

When a blocked caller dials in, the call still appears in the Call Log as [Blocked] so the customer can see who called. Blocked callers can still leave voicemail.

Wi-Fi Calling

Wi-Fi Calling does not work with AT&T or AT&T-based MVNOs (e.g., Selectel). It works with T-Mobile and Verizon-based service, though some MVNOs may not support it.

Email Sent Folder Setup

When setting up email (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.), the Sent Items folder is not automatically configured. After adding the account, go to the email app → three-dot menu → Settings → Accounts → your email address → Folders → Sent Folder, and select the correct folder.
