Home Phone Connect Devices

Keep your landline phone working — over a cellular signal

AT&T IFWA-40 Home Phone Connect

What Is a Home Phone Connect Device?

A Home Phone Connect (HPC) device — commonly called a "black box" or, in the case of the Verizon LVP-2, a "white box" — is a small cellular adapter that accepts a SIM card, connects to a 4G LTE network, and provides a standard RJ11 phone jack. You plug in any traditional corded or cordless desk phone and make calls over the cellular signal, with no cable, DSL, or landline service required.

HPC devices are popular with customers who want to continue using a familiar desk phone without a traditional phone line. They are widely used in rural areas and communities where a landline is not practical or desired.

Faxing: Home Phone Connect devices are not recommended for reliable faxing. Cellular compression and network jitter cause frequent transmission failures. For fax needs, ask us about our Fax/Email from Printer package or our dedicated Faxing Package — both provide dependable fax delivery without the unreliability of cellular fax.

Verizon Home Phone Connect Devices

Lockdown Options

Select AT&T devices — the IFWA-40, MF279 (AT&T), and MF279 (H2O) — include a built-in WiFi hotspot. A lockdown restricts what that hotspot can be used for. This option is configured at the time of purchase and does not apply to voice-only devices.

Lockdown Option Features Accessible
Email Only Default WiFi hotspot is restricted to email traffic only. Web browsing, streaming, and general internet use are not available.
No Lockdown Full, unrestricted WiFi hotspot. Any connected device can access the internet without limitation.

Troubleshooting

IFWA-40 — Extending Ring Time

The IFWA-40 may stop ringing sooner than expected before a call goes to voicemail. To extend the ring duration to 30 seconds:

  1. From the connected home phone, dial *#61# and note the callback number shown on your handset display.
  2. Dial the following, replacing [callback number] with the number from step 1:
    **61*+1[callback number]**30#
